Lincoln learned that the Garrison at Fort Sumter was in trouble on the day that he took office in March of 1861. During the attack on Fort Sumter there was the one shot that brought every soldier to their feet which was the biggest bomb like sound that they had heard scince the whole attack had began.

In the Civil War there were a series of engagements and the Wilderness Campaign was one of them. The Wilderness Campaign consisted of being clear in order for there to be any fight. This clearing is what Grant had been planning for. This was a success.

The Confederacy began to fall because of transportation problems anad because the trengthening of blockade. Once the blockade became successful the food supply shortened and people on the South began to starve, and once the people in the South were starving their Army started to starve as well. This resulted in a shrinking Army and decrease of population in the South.

When Lee found out that his men were to weak and powerless to fight all he could possibly do is surrender to Grant because what good was he to keep the men fighting with no energy. This conflict lasted two and a half hours and was concluded the bloodiest fight in history.
