Montressor greets Fortunato as his friend even though he is planning to kill him later. I think this says that this will work better in his plan then going up and being hateful and rude to Fortunato. -

Montressor gets Fortunato even more drunk so he is easier to tie up and wall up. And, Montressor already has the masonry tools hid under some of the bones, that tells you he was planning this, -
Vaults
Fortunato is coughing and Montressor acts like he is worried but I think it is just an act because a friend would be worried about another friend but a murderer usually isn't too worried if his victim is coughing. But Fortunato isists that they go to the vaults anyway. -
Chained up.
Montressor has tied Fortunato up and Fortunato does not resist because he is so drunk. Montressor begins to build the wall in the open area of the niche. He is about halfway done and he starts to talk to Fortunato. Fortunato realizes he is tied up and is about to die so he begins to beg for forgiveness. -
Half a century.
According to Montressor his crime is not found for half of a century so he thinks he is free of pre meditaded murder of his "friend" -
Second Thoughts?
Montressor is still building the wall and he has just a few bricks missing then Fortunato has silenced. Montressor then realizes what he has done. I begins to look into the little hole and I think he is having second thoughts and starting to feel guilty as it has just sunk in that he has killed his friend that has a given him a "thousand injuires"
