    Carter was a part of a treaty between Israel and Egypt which meant that Egypt would be the first Arab nation to recognize Israel as a real country. Carter pushed really hard to bring together the Geneva Conference to get the dispute resolved.

    President Carter pardoned everyone who evaded the Vietnam war draft. Many evaded the draft because they did not believe in what they were fighting for. Carter did not resent them for not supporting their country. This gave Carter lots of public approval early in his tenure.

Although Carter was no longer president when the hostages were released there was no way Bush was able to set things into motion with such a short amount of time in office. You can attribute the success of the release to Carter.

    Starting in november 1972, Jimmy Carter discussed with Leonid Brezhniv to establish the second SALT treaty.
    Both sides agreed to a more specific limit on the country's arms. This would also restrain the development of new offensive arms. Although the Soviet union invaded Afghanistan, leading Carter to not want to consider SALT II, Both Soviet union and the US agreed to adhere to the treaty.
