    Introduction of the Story
    The narrator describes his life including his fondness of animals and how he married early to his wife. His love for animals rubbed off on his wife, and with no hesitation bought birds, fish, a dog, rabbits, a small monkey, anc a black cat.
  • Rising Action-1

    Rising Action-1
    The narrators favorite of all his companions was the black cat. He refers to the cat as Pluto, with his thick fur coat and his glimmering eyes. The cat would always go where he went and endless stokes and embraces.

    Rising Action-2
    His wife didn't care much for the cat due to the superstision that said black cats are witches in disguise. Therefore, she didn't use much of her time to care or need for Pluto.
  • Rising Action-3

    The narrator grew annoyed with the cat. Their relationship had began to fade. The narrators attention and compassion for Pluto decreased, because of his alcoholic addiction.

    His addiction for achohol grew stronger which caused the narrator to become grouchy and moody. The narrator started using intemperate language and violence towards his wife. He also began to ignore all the animals except for Pluto.

    One late night, when the narrator was drunk, he came home and tore the eyeball out of Pluto's socket, due to Pluto's harsh actions of clawing and self-defence. Pluto survived, but was left with a scary apperance without his eye.
  • Climax

    Climax
    One morning, the crazed narrator got a rope to hang pluto with, saving himself from eternal buring in Hell. As he hung the cat, he cried endlessly, for he knew the cat had once loved him. The following night after the cruel deed had been completed, the house was blazing. Luckily he made it out alive with his servant and wife.

    The next day, the narrator went to visit the ruins, and all the walls had callapsed except one, which contained an apparation of a cat with a rope around its neck. A crowd had gathered around to look at this strange attratcion.

    Soon after he moved into his new home, he found a similar looking cat, with a black fur coat with a white spot on its breast. The cat soon became his, reminding him of his cruel deed he had once done to his previous cat, Pluto.

    Unlike the other cat, his wife adored the new cat and spoiled it with love and compassion. As her affection grew, the narrators declined to such an extent, that his memories of Pluto overtook him. He wanted this cat dead.

    One day the narrator was walking into the cellar of the building and the cat accompanied him. The cat went in front of the narrator nearly causing him to fall. Frusterated, he picked up a nearby axe and swung at the cat's head. Suddenly, his wife grabbed his arm and stopped him. The narrator then swung the axe at her head, causing her death.
  • Resolution part 1

    Resolution part 1
    Following the murder of the narrators wife, he dismantled the wall and hid her remains in the cellar wall. The narrator put it back so perfectly that no one would suspect. Once he had finished, he began to look for the cat. Luckily for the cat, he could not find him. Four days after the murder, the police arrive unexpectedly at the narrator's appartment to search for his wife. After they had failed to find the body, the narrator is content with himself and tells the policemen how well the walls
  • Resolution part 2

    Resolution part 2
    how well the house is constructed and bangs on the wall where the body has been placed. A moan is heard from the wall and the narrator is fillled with shock and horror as the police immediatly dismantle the wall. The corpse of the wife is found with the wretched cat on the head of the decayed body.
