    law was signed by Abraham Lincoln. This law freed all slaves in the rebellious states. This event set the theme for the book. It affected Miss Jane greatly. At this point she had a make a life altering choice “they don’t care what ya’ll do, where ya’ll go.” “im the one who saying ya’ll can stay on if ya’ll want.”-slave master. Miss Jane decied she wants to leave because she has nothing to stay for. She says shes going to fine Mr. Brown in Ohio.

    Ned
    The leader of the group was Big Laura. She had a baby and a young son named Ned. The second day of travel while everyone is sleeping a group of patrollers can and killed everyone, except Miss Jane and Ned. Miss Jane raised Ned as her own and he played a large roll in Miss Janes life. "i got this child to take care,i got that river to cross-and how many more rivers i got to cross before i reach Ohio."

    When Miss Jane and Ned go to get on the ferry, they get kick off because they don’t have money. A few hours later a black man rode up and told them to get on the boat he took them in for the night. It was a significant part to her journeys because in this part she has experiences with different people. This is a big part because she learns how to deal with different people and to stick up for herself. “ I though theses two little old legs was go’n buckle under me now for sure.”

    They meet this one guy named Job who gives them a place to sleep and the next day takes them to a plantation. She makes a deal with the owner and gets to prove her strength. She does and at around age 12 she does the work of a full grown woman and gets paid like one too. They live her for quite a few years. Ned grows up here. “Alright” “I’ll give you a try,” “But you still spare and I wont pay you more than six a month.” “take it or leave it.”

    Ned leaves home. He joins a group that helps the blacks get away. After being a part of this group for about 6 months. The owner of the plantation says that Ned needs to get out of the group. Ned refuses and one night the Ku Klux Klancomes and beats Miss Jane, but Ned is not there."then you have tp go or they'll kill you" That night Miss Jane tells Ned he has to go. This is very hard for her because he is like her own son.

    After Ned leaves Miss Jane meets this nice man named Joe Pittman. They get married. She helps raise his kids because she can’t have any. Joe is a big part of her life because he is her one and only true love. " your Pittman will stand between you and death."
  • Moving again

    A few years later, Joe wants to leave because he found a better job breaking horses, Miss Jane isn’t very confident with this move but she goes anyways. It’s a very hard trip. This affects her life because she is at a different time in her life. Miss Jane starts having horrible dreams about Joe’s death…. before they leave Joe has truble because he owes the owner money after he gets the money to him the owener is mad. "Dont let the sun set on you anywhere near my place."

    Joe is a crazy horse breaking man. Miss Jane doesn’t like him riding,especially when she starts having dreams about Joe dying again. She tries to prevent his death but she can’t. She even goes to physics. Who tells her that yes Joe is going to die and she can’t help it. One day Joe does die get dragged by the horse and is dead when they find him. This is very hard on Miss Jane because there is so much death in her life and it was her lover. “Now, little mama, man come here to die,didn’t her?”

    Ned brings his family back to reunite with Miss Jane and to teach. Albert Cluveau is set up to kill Ned because there are people who are mad about his teaching. He is shot on his way back from getting wood for his school. This is a very sentiment part because he bleeds all over the wood and they used that wood for the school, it makes is a important place. This impacts Miss Jane greatly because he is her only child. Albert Cluveau was a close friend to Miss Jane “Get a way from mr devi.l"

    When Jimmy was born, his grandma knew he was the ONE . Noone said it out loud but everyone knew it when he was born. They could tell that he was going to be the one to make a change.”you the one Jimmy, You the one?” it affects Miss Jane beacsue she becomes a main person in his raising .

    Jimmy is defiantly different from the other kids. He is a very fast learner. He also had a large heart. He thinks of others before himself. He doesn’t lie but he sometimes changes the score of Miss Jane’s favorite baseball team, because she’s old and needs something to live for. The whole ranch helped raising him. “we picked him because we needed someone.”

    Jimmy came up with a plan do protest sperate but equal.He set up to have a young black girl to drink out of the whites water Fountain. She got arrested before she even when up to the water fountain, but it got the point a crossed. “that’s why I’m here now.” “Because what they did to Miss Yoko.”

    Jimmy was going to lead a group to protest at the court house and demand they free the girl, but at eight o’clock that morning Jimmy is shot. When everyone is told they are told that’s it’s over and there’s no point. Instead of Miss Jane going Home she continues and 100s of people follower her! “the rest of him is waiting for us in Bayonne, and I will go with Alex.”
