    After the French and indian war the British were in a large amount of debt so they issued the Stamp Act. The Act put taxes on many products sold to America from Britain. This angered the colonists because they didn't think it was fair because the British are so far away. This was one of the leading up points to the American Revolution.     The Boston Massacre was the event in which 5 colonists were killed by British soldiers. The rising tensions between the two sides resulted in the event. The tension was caused due to the rising levels of British troops in American cities. The soldiers were sent to enforce the laws set out by British parliament.     It was designed to help out the East india trading company. They sold tea in large amounts at a cheap price. They wanted to build the monopoly of the company. The American colonies refused to buy the tea so the British company had 18 million pounds of unsold tea.     The British led a secret attack to Lexington to capture Colonial leaders. Their second target was concord where they would seize a gunpowder supply. The Colonial troops were informed of the attack and went to meet the British soldiers..The British offered the Colonials a surrender. They accepted but when they withdrew a gunshot rang out and both sides exchanged fire until the Americans withdrew. This battle was assymetrical because the British expected no fight. The British eventually won but it was seen as a pyric victory for the Patriots because it encouraged the revolutions cause. This is symmetrical because it ends up in an American victory.     Washingtons force was about 1500 and the British 8000. They were outnumbered so in the night they The Americans headed for Princeton but on the way they saw British soldier who thought they were hessians. A battle then waged at a near orchard in which the British pulled back to princeton and Washington followed.     Battle of Saratoga
    The two battles of Saratoga occurred 18 days apart in 1777. The British general Burgoyne lead a costly victory against the Americans. Knowing his forces had been weakened he attacked again but this time he lost. He surrendered 10 days after his retreat. This victory caused the French government to formally recognize the colonists as allies. This is symmetrical because it ends up in a Patriot Victory. Source History.com

    The continental army enters its winter camp in preparation of a bitter cold winter. During the winter of 1777-1778 was especially bitter and it tested the the soldiers of the continental army. Hundreds of the 11000 soldiers died in the cold. After the winter the soldiers that were left were hardened and went on to win multiple battles.     It was a land and sea campaign that trapped a major British army on a peninsula. This peninsula was located in Yorktown, Virginia. They forced the surrender of the British.
