  • Treaty of Paris (French and Indian War)

    Treaty of Paris (French and Indian War)
    This document ended the French and Indian War. Britain gave up it's leading sugar producing island to keep Canada. Britain won the war and the French and it's allies lost so when the next war comes around the French want revenge.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The purpose of the document was to organize Britains new territory. Britain made a line for which settlers couldn't settle there. They also established relatioms with Native Americans.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was tax put on imported goods. It taxed Wine, Lumber, Mollases. This affected the lumber industry and made many settlers mad.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act required tax on all documents.The tax was a very small payment. The colonists were upset because they didn't have a say in if they should be taxed or not. This led to protests and eventually Parliament repealing the Stamp Act.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act was a law that made the colonists house British troops. It also said that the colonists had to feed them and let them bathe all in the colonists expenses. The colonists were angry and fueled the fire for towards a Revolution.

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a dispute between American citizens and British soldiers. The American citizens were throwing rocks at the soldiers and the soldiers thought it would turn into a fight. The soldiers fearing for their safety shot at the citizens killing five. This led to Americans wanting to get the British out of America.

    The Tea Act was tea that was shipped directly to the colonies for a cheap price. It was the East India Company tea that the British sent the americans, to try and get the East India Company back on it's feet. The Americans thought the tea was nasty and didn't want to drink it, therefore the Boston Tea Party dumped it overboard.

    The Boston Tea Party started when the sons of liberty dressed as indians and went aboard a british ship. When they were on the ship they dumped chests of tea overboard into the ocean in protest to the tea act. This caused Britains king to try and hold the people who dumped the tea accountable for their actions. This added more hostility towards each side.

    1st Continental Congress
    The 1st Continental Congress was a Congress with delegates from all of the colonies except Georgia. They discussed if they should break away from Britain or ask for peace with them. This would be the first Congress for Americans and their rights.

    The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws to punish the colonists. These laws were enfirced after the Boston Tea Party dumped tea into the Boston harbor. The colonists thought these were cruel and unnecessary.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The battle of Lexington and Concord kicked off the Revolutionary War. It was the first military engagement and it was the trained British army against the American militia. Paul Revere and other riders sounded the alarm that the British were coming. This was the very start of the war leading to British defeat at both battles.

    2nd Continental Congress
    The 2nd Continental Congress met again to discuss growing concerns. They discussed about the war effort and to send the Olive Branch Petition in a last chance effort to make peace. Britain didn't want to let his colonies go so the Americans created the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Indpendence meant that the Americans were going to be free even if they had to fight for it.

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill mostly took place on Breeds Hill but the fight was named after neighboring hill Bunker Hill. General Howe led his British army up the hill but retreated down after many of his men were shot. The British charged the hill a total of 3 times and finally succeded on the third time. Only because the Americans ran out of gunpowder.

    Thomas Paine was the author who wrote the book Common Sense. The book called for Americans to be independence. This caused for some Americans to push for their independence.

    The Declaration of Independence was the document stating that the American colonies were going to be free. It was then signed primarly on August 2nd. This led for many Americans to be strong patriots.

    The Battle of Brooklyn was fought in New York near the Gawanus Pass. The British charged the Americans but George Washington retreated under heavy fog in boats across the river. The British then captured New York on September 15,1776

    The American Crisis was a collection of articles written by Thomas Paine. It was extremely popular and it talked about independence from Britain. Because the articles were so popular George Washington had it read to his men.

    The Battle of Trenton was a great moral building battle for the Americans. After crossing the Delaware River, George Washington captured most of the British army there. Only a few Hessian soldiers escaped capture.

    The Battles of Saratoga were two battles that were fought 18 days apart but in the same place. General Burgoyne was leading the British put hand to surrender after he was outnumbered. When the Continental Army captured the British, France now had a reason to join our army. This led to France and Spain joining the American side.

    The American troops went to Valley Forge for the winter of 1777-1778. It is 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia. By the end of Febuary 2,500 Americans were dead.,

    Battle of Yorktown
    The Battle of Yorktown was the last stand for the British. The Americans won the battle and the British surrendered. This led to the Treaty of Paris to end the war.

    The Treaty of Paris was the document officially ending the Revolutionary War. Benjamin Franklin and John Adams signed the document with others. This gave America it's freedom and larger amounts of land.
