  • Period: to

    French & Indian War

    The French & Indian War happened before the Revolutionary War. Great Britain wanted to expand onto French land. The French protested, so they began to fight over land
  • Treaty of Paris

    After the French & Indian War, Britain, France, Spain and Portugal signed a peace treaty in Paris. Great Britain had won, with help from the 13 colonies and Indians, but they lost a lot of money in the process. This caused the Revolutionary War
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was an act passed by the parliament that put a tax on sugar and molasses, two of North America's biggest trade items. The sugar act also cracked down on smuggling. This act made the colonist extremely angry that the British were taxing them without their consent.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering act stated that Colonist must provide food, shelter and supplies for the British soldiers. The Americans didn't like the idea of soldiers in their houses going through their things.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre started with a mob of colonists, throwing snowballs, and gravel, while screaming insults, at a group of British soldiers. As a result, the 9 soldiers fired into the crowd and killed 5 colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was one of the largest rebellions and protests against Great Britain. The Tea Party was a series of events organized by the sons of liberty. They wanted to show Great Britain that they had no right to tax the colonists without their consent.
  • Coercive Acts

    After the Boston Tea Party, King George decided that the Colonists went too far and had to be punished. So he passed the Coercive Acts. These Acts prevented trading in and out of Boston. This isolated Boston from the rest of the colonies, and the world.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill was the first battle in American Revolution. Patriot soldiers took refuge on Bunker Hill. Because the British thought that the Americans were not skilled enough to defend themselves, they charged up the Hill. The British underestimated the Americans capability, although they still won the Battle.
  • Battle of Lexington & Concord

    After the famous ride of Paul Revere and William Dawes, the British marched into Lexington. But luckily the colonists were expecting them, and during the confusion that followed, a shot was fired. Nobody knows who fired it or why, but it was called the shot heard around the world.
  • Declaration of Independece

    Declaration of Independece
    Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, and Robert Sherman were in charge of the Declaration of Independence. After Jefferson wrote the declaration, he gave it to Adams and Franklin to look over. Eventually the whole Congress looked at it and approved it.
  • Battle of Trenton

    When Washington's army was almost ready to desert him because they had lost too many battles, He made one final attempt to beat the British. When he was halfway to Trenton, Washington divided the army into to parts, sending one half around Trenton, following the river, and he took the other half the other direction. They attacked the Hessians in Trenton on Christmas eve and took them by suprise.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    British General Burgoyne decided to cut New York off from the rest of the colonies. General Burgoyne was doing fine until he reached Saratoga. His army was attacked and defeated by an American Army.
  • Sea Battle 1778

    In 1778 John-Paul Jones was sailing around the British Isles, and unfortunatly, ran into the British ship Serapis. A desperate naval battle took place, and when the American ship was in a state of extream disrepair, and missing half of its crew, Jones was asked if he was ready to surrender. Jones reponded "Ihaven't even begun to fight!" and so began another round of fighting.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    General Cornwallis and his army retreated to Yorktown, American and French soldiers surrounded the town. The British hid there for three weeks before surrendering.
  • Tready of Paris

    Tready of Paris
    The document that marked the end of the Revolutionary War was the Treaty of Paris. This document recognized the colonies as individual states. The writing and signing of the document took place in Paris.
