  • Election of 1860

    The winner of the Election of 1860 was Abraham Lincoln. He was an abolitionist and a republican.   • The South Seceeds

    After Abraham Lincoln was elected president. many of the states in the South, but still in the Union, seceeded from the Union. These states included South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. www.pbs.org
  • 1st Meeting of the Confederacy

    On February 4, 1861 the seceeding states came to Montgomery, Alabama where they named themselves the Confederate States of America, or the Confederacy, and elected Jefferson Davis as their president. They also wrote a constitution. www.pbs.org
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter was the first official battle of the Civil War; Fort Sumter was a federal fort at the enterance to Charleston Harbor in South Carolina. The Confederates attacked the fort, and the fort eventually surrendered. That was the spark of the Civil War. www.civilwar.org

  • Seven Days' Battle

    The Seven Days' Battle first started when General Robert E. Lee of the Confederacy attacked General McClellan of the Union. McClellan ended up surrendering. www.civilwar.org
  • The Second Battle of Bull Run

    The Battle of Antietam is known as the bloodiest single-day battle in US history. It was an important victory for the Union because General Lee lost many of his troops. www.civilwar.org
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation is an "order announced by President Lincoln in 1862 that freed the slaves in non-occupied areas rebelling against the Union; took effect January 3, 1863". www.pbs.org
