This was the first shot that was fired in the war, and both the colonists and the British now knew that the war had begun.

    The signing of the Declaration of Independence was truly the most important of the events of the American Revolution, since it officially declared the Patriots' independence from the British as a new country. Written by Thomas Jefferson and originally signed by President of the Congress John Hancock and Secratary Charles Thomson, the Declaration of Independence also stated several ideas that shaped our country such as "all men are equal."

    The Battle of Saratoga was an significant turning point in the American Revolution because it showed that the Americans had a chance at winning the war, and also because it brought in importnat allies. Before this victory, the Americans were dejected and miserable, and many had given up the hope of being free. After the battle, the Americans' hopes were raised again, and they were fighting with more spirit.

    Also, this war had given the French and Spanish a reason to support the Americans against their Brittish enemies. They became allies of the Americans, and sent weapons, troops, and warships. Without them, the Americans wouldn't have won the war.

The first part of the three parts was that Great Britain agreed to recognize the United States as an independent nation. Secondly, Britain gave up its claim to all lands between the Atlantic Coast and the Mississippi River, from Canada south to Florida. Finally, the United States agreed to return all rights and property taken from Loyalists during the war.
