  • Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammad bin Thani-1878 to 1913

    Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammad bin Thani was born in 1825. Sheikh Jassim assumed full responsibility as Emir of Qatar in 1876 when ottamans gave him the title Qaem, Maqam Deputy governor. The ottomans tried to control Qatar by appointing ottomans administrators in Zubara, Doha, Wakrah, and Khor. They also wanted to strengthen their military base in Doha. This led to war between Sheikh Jassim and the ottomans. Sheikh Jassim and his citizens beat the ottomans which led to a great achievement.

    In the middle of the 19th century the Al-Thani family moved to Doha from Fuwairat, by the leadership of Mohammad bin Thani. When his father Thani bin Mohammad died he became in chharge of his tribe in fuwairat. Sheikh Mohammad spread his rule throughout Qatar.
  • Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani

    Sheikh Abdullah was born in Doha in 1880. On July 17, 1913 he took over to be the ruler of Qatar. On November 3, 1916, Britian signed a treaty with Sheikh Abdullah to be protected by britian against any attack. At that time oil was also discovered during his rule.
  • Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani 1949-1960

    Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani 1949-1960
    Sheikh Ali was known for his generosity and benevolence. Following his father, he became the ruler of Qatar. His reign led to an increase in oil production. On December 31, 1949, the first oil shipment exported from Dukhan field petrol and the country quickly progressed towards stability.

    Sheikh Ahmed was born in 1920 in Doha. He established the ministry of finance in 1960. Gulf countries began asking for independence during his rule.
  • Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al-Thani 1972-1995

    Sheikh Khalifa became the ruler in Qatar in 1972. His achievements include establishing democracy, Gulf Cooperation Council, and introduced Qatar University and Hamad General Hospital.
  • Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani 1995-2013

    Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani 1995-2013
    Sheikh Hamad was born in Doha in 1952. He recieved primary, preparatory, and secondary education in Qatari schools. He joined the military school in the UK and graduated in 1971. As a result he was the first commander in chief of the Qatar Armed Force.

    Sheikh Tamim was born on 3rd of June 1980. He graduated from Sherborne Secondary School in the UK in 1997. After that he then graduated from Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1998. Sheikh Tamim recieved the oath of allegiance as the Emir on Tuesday, 25th of June 2013.
