  • Electric Prisms

    Electric Prisms
Prismes électriques is focused around two large overlapping circles created by arcs or curved forms of primary and secondary colors placed one beside the other. This painting was created by Sonia Delanunay who was a Ukrainian-born French artist, who spent most of her working life in Paris. She formally trained in Russia and Germany before moving to France and expanding her practice to include textile, fashion, and set design. This picture stood out to me because of the giant shapes.

    The Blue Plume
This painting was created by Marie Laurencin who was a Parisian who began her artistic education in porcelain painting at the Ecole de Sèvres before studying alongside Braque and Picabia at the Académie Humbert. She was a member of the Cubists but was very good with her use of delicate, airy pastels and pursuit of a distinctly feminine aesthetic distinguished her work from the movement’s norms. Laurencin’s unique style made her popular as a portraitist throughout the 1920s.
