  • Prohiition

    Prohiition prohibted the consumption of alcoholic beverages. It is significant because it they took away our right to drink as we please. The 18th amendment was repealled in 1933.
  • The 19th Amendment

    The 19th amendment stated that women had the right to vote. It took 41 years for the amendment to be ratified. Women were then equal to men in the eyes of the government. Women today still hold the right to vote.
  • KDKA Pittsburgh

    KDKA is a radio station that is a news/talks broadcast. It's first air date was onAugust 20, 1920. The radio station was created by Westington Electric Company. It was the first radio station to take air and is still listened to today.
  • Emergency Quota Act

    The Emergency Quota Act restricted entrance into the United States of immigrants. It is significant because it was supposed to be a temporary thing but then began a whole new movement of restrictions against immigrants.
  • The Boll Weevil Killing Crops

    The Boll Weevil is a dust bowl that ruined many crops in the South. This event was significant because it added much more stress to the already stressful lives of the farmers. They were already having troubles with the growth of urbanization and the dust bowl just killed more crops so therefore they got less money.
  • The Rise of the Stock Market

    The rise of the stock market boom in 1924 was significant because this happened prior to the Great Depression. The economy hit a high and had smooth sailing but five years later hit rock bottom.
  • National Origins Act

    This act restricted immigration based on population. It is significant because it was one of the events that spurred the changes of immigration. It replaced the Emergency Quota Act.
  • The Scopes Trials

    These trials were the first of many to take place. They were caused by the teaching of evolution in a classroom when it was clearly stated that that was against the rules. It was significant because it brought attention of the immigrants who haven't heard such things.
  • Klu Klux Klan's March

    This event marked the peak of klan power and gave national attention to the klan. This march had all eyes on it while it was occuring. This made people aware of the klan and what they were capable of.
  • The Weary Blues

    This poem was significant because it was one one of the many poems that talked about african american life. It became a legendary poem that is still read today.
  • Charles Lindbergh Flys Across Atlantic

    Charles Lindbergh made history by being the first person to fly across the Atlantic. He survived the trip and used his fame to promote flying. This event began the interest in flying airplnes for long distances.
  • Sacco and Vanzetti Assassination

    The execution of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was a very significant event during the 1920s because people believed they weren't guilty but were executred because they were Italian immigrants. Many belived that the jury was prejudice towards immigrants.
  • Herbert Hoover Elected to Office

    Herbert Hoover was a great president. He had many different ideas than presidents before him, had never thought of. He believed in volunteering and he also donated his paycheck to charity which showed his love for the people whom he served over.
