    Flapper Fashion
    Before the 1920's, most women wore corsets and long, covering, dresses. But once the 1920's hit, that all seem to disappear with the younger generation. They traded in their long, fitted dresses for box cut, knee length dresses revealing their arms and legs. They also cut their hair short and started wearing make-up, which was preaviously unaccepted because of its conection with prostitution.

    First Radio Broadcast
    Though the radio had been used in the military since 1912, the first commercial radio broadcasts in 1920 are hugely significant. These broad casts are the first of what has now become a huge part of american culture. We could now recieve live entertainment wirelessly, whether that's the nostalgic image of a family listening to the baseball game, or listening to music in automobiles.

    The ratification of the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. This was a turning point in that It marked the end of the government allowing discrimination on the basis of gender.

    In 1922 the first all colored film came out. The Toll of the Sea, directed by Chester M. Franklin, was a Technicolor Motion Picture and did not require a special projector inorder to veiw it.

    The Jazz SInger, an American musical file, was the first featured lenght motion picture with "synchronized dialogue". The movie was produced by Warner Brothers and started the decline of silent films.

    Amelia Earhart Flies the Atlantic
    Amelia Earhart was only the 14th woman to ever be issued a piolot's liscence, and worked to save money for flying lessons on her own. Her flight across the atlantic was a huge step for women, and she has inspired girls ever since. In many ways she was one of the first "tom-boys" that gained a celebrity status.

    Stemboat Willie, more commonly know as Mickey Mouse, made his debut at the Colony Theater in New York City. Mickey Mouse would then be in over 120 more not inculding his own show, Mickey Mouse club house. Walt Disney's character would lead to the creation of other characters that would also make a impact on history.

    New York's Museum of Modern Art Opens
    The Museum of Modern Art was the first American museum to feature art of its kind. It's exibits were sometimes controversial, but gained huge success. It is largely responsible for the fame of what are now know as the most famous artists, for example, Henri Rousseau, Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali.
