  • Theodore Roosevelt is born.

    Born October 27th 1858 in New York and is house is a historic site.
  • Named President when McKinley was assassinated

    Roosevelt started his presidency on September 14th 1901. He had served as the 25th vice president under McKinley for 6 months in 1901 and had became president after McKinley was assassinated.
  • Energy Crisis- Anthracite Coal Strike

    On May 12th 1902 Roosevelt had called both parties to the white house to discuss the issue. Roosevelt had helped set up a 3rd party for the mines that would be on both sides of the mandate issues.
  • Elkins Act Passed

    On February 19th 1903 the Elkins Act was passed. The Elkins Act prohibited railroads from giving rebates to businesses that ship large quantities of goods giving power to those businesses to artificially lower shipping prices.
  • Pelican Island Florida named first wildlife refuge

    On March 14th 1903 Roosevelt's executive order designated the island as the nations first wildlife refuge for the protection of nesting birds, it had also been the beginning of the National Wildlife Refuge System.
  • Yosemite under Federal control

    On June 11th 1906 Roosevelt pledged to make Yosemite valley and the Mariposa Grove as part of the Yosemite National Park. California had receded Yosemite valley and the Mariposa Grove to the federal government on June 11th 1906
  • Passage of Pure Food and Drug Act

    On June 30th 1906 Roosevelt signed the food and drug Act. The act had prohibited the sale of misbranded or adulterated food and drugs in interstate commerce. This means that the labels on food and drugs have to list the correct ingredients and amounts. And the adulterated foods and drugs means no adding any alcohol or drugs into foods or medicines children can take or have.
  • Devils Tower Wyoming

    On September 24th 1906 Devils Tower was designated as America's first National Monument. The tower is a sacred place to over 20 Native American tribes. Devils Tower also has scientific value, it is formed of rare indigenous rock and is the largest example of columnar jointing in the world.
  • Leaves Presidency visits Africa

    Roosevelt left to go to Africa on March 23rd 1909. Roosevelt's expedition was sponsored in part of the Smithsonian Institution. He had gone to Africa to hunt big game which would in turn be stuffed and turned over to Smithsonian for its exhibit halls.
