  • ENIAC - First Computer

    ENIAC - First Computer
    Source The design and construction of ENIAC was financed by the U.S. Army, Ordnance Corps, Research and Development Command. On 5 June 1943, the construction contract was signed and they began secretly building at the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Electrical Engneering the next month under the code name of "Project PX". ENIAC weighed more than 30 short tons and was roughly 8 x 3 x 100 feet in size, occupied 1800 square feet.

    SourceThe first programmable robot built the foundations or today's robotics industry. This robot was then sold to General motors so it could lift pieces of hot metal.
  • Unimate - First Industrial Robot

    Unimate - First Industrial Robot
    The Unimate worked on a General motors assembly line in New Jersey and was the first industrial robot. The robot had th job of transporting die castings from an assembly line and welding those parts on auto bodies because it was too dangerous for humans for the reason of possibly being poisoned by exhaust gas or they may lose a limb if not careful.
  • Hardiman Robot - Prototype

    Hardiman Robot - Prototype
    The Hardiman was General Motor's first attempt to build a powered exoskeleton. It was designed to help the person wering it lift up to 1500 pounds, with little effort at all. Their attempts to use the exoskeleton resulted in violent uncontrolled motins, which resulted in the Hardiman exoskeleton to be unsuccessful.

    SourceThe Arpanet was the first network that connected computers and was developed b the U.S. military. The protocol TCP/IP was first developed to communicate and is still used today.
  • "The Silver Arm"

    SourceThe Silver Arm was designed by David Silver in 1974. It was capable of fine movements replicating human hands. Feedback from The Silver Arm was provided by touch and pressured sensors and then analyzed by a computer.
  • First Apple Computer

    Apple-1 was designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak. In order to finance this creation, Steve Jos sold his only way of transportation, a VW Microbus and Steve Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator for 500$. The Apple-1 had a standard 4 KB memory and was expandable to 8 KB or 48 KBusing expansion cards. In July 1976. the Apple-1 wet on sale for 666.66$. The Apple-1 was disontinued in October of 1977.

    SourceWabot-2 was first revealed in 1984. The Wabot-2 had 10 fingers and 2 feet. It was capable of playing the organ and was able to read a score of music and accompany a person.

    SourceThe Playstation is developed by Sony and was first introduced in Japan. Leading up to today, there are four different game consoles and two different handheld systems. The original Playstation was the fifth generation of game consoles that were competeing against the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo 64. The Playstation was the first game console to sell 120 million units.

    SourceIn 1996, RoboTuna was built by doctoral student David Barrett at the Massachusetts Institue of Technology to study how fish swim in water. It was designed to resemble a blue fin tuna when it swam.

After sales of the Atari Jaguar stopped sales in 1996, the Xbox was the first gaming console offered by an American company. The name Xbox was derived from a contraction of DirectX Box which had been a reference to Microsoft's graphics.

    SourceRobonaut 2 is capable of speeds more than four times faster than the original Robonaut. It is also more compact, more dexterous, and has a larger range a sensing. Its hands have a grasping force of about 5 pounds per finger. Robonaut 2 has over 350 sensors and 38 PowerPC processors.

    SourceThe 800 series has many features. It is now equipped with sensors in it's front called Cliff Detect and it also has rear (bumper) sensors. The only difference between this model and previous models is that the technology in it has been updated.
