  • The power if suction

    In 1901 powered vacuum cleaners using suction were invented independently by British engineer Hubert Cecil Booth and American inventor David T. Kenney. Booth also may have coined the word "vacuum cleaner".
  • A BA DA BIRD BIRD BIRD BIRD, BIRD IS THE WORD

    Planes were first invented in 1903 by Wilbur and Orville Wright and with the first world war in 1914 air planes took a huge leap forward being made from only wood at first they were quickly made from only metal.4600 American airplanes were built in 1928 and 104 different planes were exhibited at an airshow. They were used as passenger planes, cargo and much more.
  • The Electric Washer

    The first washers were first thought of long before the boom of consumerism, and lots were powered by steam. The first electric washers were advertised and published in adds around 1904. But of course they weren't used in great quantity until consumerism took off.
  • The Model T

    On October 1, 1908, the first production Model T Ford is completed at the company’s Piquette Avenue plant in Detroit. Between 1908 and 1927, Ford would build some 15 million Model T cars.     Consumerism takes off
    Due to many different reasons including, the advances in technology, workplace efficiency, and a feeling of financial stability for many people of he U.S. This inspires many different technologies to bloom, most were made to be for the new age consumer.
  • Radio, the internet of the 1920s

    The first radios were invented in 1895 but the first commercially licensed radio station in the United States was KDKA in Pittsburgh. In 1920, it began broadcasting from the roof of the Westinghouse Electric factory. The number of licensed radio stations increased from five in 1921 to 500 by 1924. It was a consumers dream. Many different kinds of events were broadcasts, sports, music, presidential speeches, elections and a lot of other things.
  • Electricity in the U.S.

    In 1882 Edison helped form the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of New York, which brought electric light to parts of Manhattan. But progress was slow. Most Americans still lit their homes with gas light and candles for another fifty years. By 1925, only half of Americans had electric lights in their home.
