The I Winter Olympics Games were held in 1924 in Chamonix, France in a well established ski resort. The week-long games were originally called “Winter Sports Week”. Politics within the Olympic movement prevented them from being designated the official Olympic Winter Games. Only in 1926, at the 25th Session of the International Olympic Committee in Lisbon the Chamonix Games were officially recognised as the first Winter Olympic Games.
Three sports venues were used for the events. -
