He was lured into the Evremonde house by two brothers to take care of a sick brother and sister. The doctor learns that the girl's husband died and she was abused (and raped) by the younger brother that asked Dr. Manette to come into the house. The brother and sister later die.

He's been in prison for ten years, and is beginning to go mad. He writes and finishes writing a manuscript depicting what happened the night he went to the Evremonde house and retells the story of the crime that they were involved in. He then claims that all Evremondes must die for what they have done.

Defarge and the doctor already knew each other. Later the doctor is released to his daughter, Lucie, and Jarvis Lorry. The three of them travel to London. The doctor has obviously gone mad from his long time in prison.

He was tried for treason, specifically for giving the French secrets of England, at the Old Bailey court in London. He wasn't actually committing treason, is job just requires him to go between the two countries. Sydney Carton and Stryver make sure he's found innocent. John Barsad and Roger Cly were witnesses. Lucie and her father are present, and Lucie wants to help Darnay as much as she can because he helped her father.

Marquis St. Evremonde runs over Gaspard's son. Gaspard latched onto the bottom of his carriage after the marquis disrespectfully threw a coin at him to "pay" or the loss of his son. St. Evremonde is found dead the next morning, stabbed by Gaspard.

All three men are in love with Lucie, but she's only in love with Charles Darnay. Carton is still a close friend, and multiple people including Lorry tell Stryver that him and Lucie aren't meant to be.

Charles tells Dr. Manette what his real last name is, and this triggers the doctor and send him back into a relapse of shoe-making.

He's found guilty and executed because he's the one who killed the marquis.

Her other child, a son, died but fortunately she was able to give birth to a healthy baby with Darnay.

French Revolution begins! They take over the Bastille, destroying everything and everyone in their path. Defarge forces a guard to take him to 105 north tower where the doctor was kept and he finds Dr. Manette's journal. Madame Defarge also beheads someone.

Foulon is also murdered. The people are fighting back and uproaring. They're extremely upset about the child getting ran over and the rich telling them to pretty much "suck it up" and "eat grass".

Darnay returns to help Gabelle because Gabelle helped him and is now in prison. They had been looking for Darnay and Darnay walked right into their trap, so they took him into custody.

Dr. Manette and Lucie arrive in Paris while Mr. Lorry is already there. Manette saves Darnay from slaughter by the mob because they worship him. He was the hero prisoner, he's extremely brave and heroic to all of them.

He's acquitted thanks to Dr. Manette's influence. BUT THEN he's re-arrested because of Defarge and Madame Defarge revealing the letter that says every Evremonde needs to die.

Carton makes Darnay write a letter "anonymously" to Lucie. Carton switches clothes with Darnay, and then is later executed while Darnay escapes with his family.
