  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    The Indian Removal Act was a law passed under Jackson's presidency. It stated the President had the right to negotioate Native American's removal. The act was supported by the Southerners, who were more than happy to recieve new land. Jackson thought the removal was inevitable, so he implemented the "Trail of Tears" which removed the Cherokee Indians, In the past, we had been mainly peaceful and friendly with the natives, but many resented the removal and we went to war with many native tribes.

    California Gold Rush

    On the 24th of January in 1848, a gold nugget what found in a river by James W. Marshall. This discovery sent 300,000 people from all over the world flocking to CA. These gold seekers were called Forty- Niners. They traveled across the ocean and across the continent to mine gold. A very few actually made much money off of the gold, and majority of the pioneers gave up and headed home with what they had. This rush made the practically uncharted California into a hot spot for all ways of life.

    American Civil War

    The American Civil War was fought between the southern states that seceeded from the Union, and the remaining Union states. The main cause of this war is that the North was opposed to slavery and the South was not. There were many bloody battles and wins for both sides, and the Battle of Gettysburg is the bloodiest battle to date. But, eventually, general Robert E. Lee surrendered to the North at Appomattox Couthouse in 1865. Even though it's far back in our history, we learned from the War.

    Gettysburg Address
    The Gettysburg Address is a speech given by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. It was fter the battle of Gettysburg, at a cemetary dedication ceremony. Lincoln's speech was only a few minutes long, but it expressed how he hoped the country could rebuild itself after the war. To this day, it is still one of the most well-known and revered speeches ever given.

    Gilded Age

    The Gilded Age was a period of time in American history where it looked like America was a wealthy country, but few people were wealthy individually. In other words, an era of economic growth. Most of this was due to the growing steel industries and similar industrialization doing on in America. There were a few wealthy business owners that hit it rich, while the rest of the population worked hard to earn their living. Yet, out of the Gilded age came indusrialization and a stronger country.

    Chinese Exclusion Act
    The Chinese Exclusion Act was signed on May 6, 1882. The act restricted Chinese immigrants from entering America for 10 years. The act was first issued because many Americans feared that the hard working Chinese immigrants would take all of their jobs, even though most Chinese people ended up in sweatshops or factories. Also, the Chinese who had already settled in America faced great prejudice and unfair treatment. This act was the first law that restricted an entire race from entering America.

    World War II

    World War II was mainly caused by the dictator Adolf Hitler. Hitler took his army (the Nazis) and pretty much tried obtaining world domination. During the war, Japan bombed Pearl harbor, which then caused America to get involved in the war. After a lot of blood had been shed, Germany surrendered in 1945. This was a signifigant event in U.S. history because the bombing from Japan was the first terrorist attack on the U.S. The war also included major involvement from America in fighting Gemany.

    Atomic Bombing on Hiroshima, Japan
    The bombing on Hiroshima, Japan was the first of two nuclear bombs dropped on Japan. These bombings occured at the very end of WWII, and they were issued by the U.S. to force Japan to surrender. The bombings were the first and only nuclear bombings ever in warfare, and peple today are still debating the ethicality of the event.

    Apollo 11 landing on the moon
    On July 21, 1969 at 2:56 A.M. Neil Armstrong was the first man to step foot on the moon. His spacecraft, Apollo 11, brought him and Buzz Aldrin to the moon. At the time, the U.S. had be racing the Soviet Union (Russia) to put the first man on the moon. This event officially ended the Space Race, and led to massive astronomical advances for the U.S.
  • Eruption of Mt. St. Helens

    Eruption of Mt. St. Helens
    Mt. St. Helens is a volcano in Washington. On Sunday, May 18 the volcano finally erupted. It sent an 80,000 foot column of ash, and deposited the ash throughout 11 surrounding states. This eruption was the only significant eruption in the U.S. since the eruption of Lassen Peak.

    I'm Tori Andrew, and I was born August 10, 2001 at the Ephrata Hospital. I am the oldest and only child in my family, and I live with my parents. I play soccer and I run track. I also enjoy doing art and photography.

    Terrorist attacks of 9/11
    The terrorist attacks of September 11th were four coordinated attacks by the Islamic Terrorist group. The terrorists hijacked planes, and crashed them into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. The attacks killed almst 3,000 people and broke all alliances we had with Islam.
  • Boston Marathon Bombing

    Boston Marathon Bombing
    The Boston Marathon Bombing was a series of 2 pressure cooker bombs that exploded near the finish of the Boston Marathon. The bombs killed only 3 people, but left around 264 severely to moderately injured. The bombers behind everything were two Afghan boys. This particular bombing was one of very few significant terrorist attacks following 9/11.
