Pre's first track Meet
He ran his first high school track meet at Roseburg Oregeon. He ran the mile placing 2nd at the meet known as the Indian club Relays. -
It's a tie!
Pre tied with a runner from Roseburg running the mile in a time of 4:48.9 at a small duel meet vs Roseburg -
First record!
He set his first record of any kind, a state record, running a 2 mile time of 9:01.3 at the Corvallis Invitational in Corvallis Oregeon -
Going For 2!
Aparently the Corvallis Invitational in Corvallis Oregeon is a lucky spot for him. He set a State record there in 1968. Then in 1969 he set a National High School Record running the 2 mile in a time of 8:41.5 -
Golden Times
He ran a mile time of 4:06.0 at the Golden West Invitational held in Sacramento California. This time was the 10th best all time for a high schooler. -
Number 3!
At the AAU championships in Miami Flordia, Steve ran 13:43.0 for his 3 mile placing him 3rd in the all time high school times -
AAU!
He ran his first AAU championship running a 3 mile time of 13:43.2 in Miami Flordia -
Pre goes International!
This was his first time running a race out of the country. He was in Stuttgart Germany and he ran 5K time of 13:52.8 placing him 3rd. -
Becoming A Duck!
Prefontaine was recruited by several top track programs across the United States, but decided to enroll at the University of Oregon to train under coach Bill Bowerman (who in 1964 founded Blue Ribbon Sports, later known as Nike) -

For the second time Pre comes in a tie with a runner. At the dual meet VS UCLA He tied with Adam Divine running a mille time of 4:05.3 -

At the USS All Stars Meet in Berkeley California he set his first American Record running a 5K time of 13:30.4 -
Wierd......
At one of the wierdest meets Pre ever ran he ran in He ran a dual meet in Durham Africa running a 5K time of 13:57.6 .He won the race because the runner who was way better than him,Yifter, on the 12th/13th lap thought it was the last lap and completely stopped, giving Pre a easy win -
Collegiate Record!!
he set a college record at the All Corners meet in the 6 mile. he ran a fanomenal time of 27:22.4 -

Pre won his 3rd NCAA track title in the 3 mile running a time of 13:31.4 in Eugene Oregon -
Upset In Munich
Pre's one and only trip to the olympics was not all he hoped. Running a 5K time of 13:22.8, he ended up getting 4th. This was upsetting because all of this work and he didnt even have a medal. -
WOW!
Running one of the best preformances ever he ever ran, he ran a 3 mile and a 6 mile in one day winning both and racing a Awesome 3 mile time of 13:06.4 -
3rd Best in the U.S.
Running a mile time of 3:55.0 at the Oregon twilight meet in Eugene he got himself the 3rd best time in the U.S.A. -

Pre won his 4th NCAA track title in the 3 mile running a time of 13:05.3 in Baton Rouge Loisiana. He is the only runner ever to win a NCAA track title all 4 years of college in the same event -

he ran his last and final AAU championship ever running a 3 mile time of 12:53.4 in Bakersfeild -

This was Pre's ONLY race he never finished at the Coca-Cola classic in London. He suffered from torn stomach muscles. He was Crushed -
Pre's last track meet
Pre's last race was at his favorite place to run ever, Hayward Field in Eugene Oregon. He ran a 5K time of 13:23.8.. -
Death to the Champion
Returning from a party, after dropping off friend and distance champion Frank Shorter, Prefontaine was driving east of the University of Oregon campus when his orange 1973 MGB convertible swerved into a rock wall and flipped.The overturned car trapped Prefontaine underneath it. Pre died instantly on the scene of the accident.
