    On October 1, 1901, Samuel Levine was born in Warsaw, Poland, to Sara Lesofsky and Bernard Levine. Due to the fact that the Levine family was Jewish, they lived in a Jewish ghetto in Warsaw.

    When Samuel was only 7 years old, he moved with his family from Poland, to America on a ship called Mauritania. Levine was then raised in New York, NY. Levine went through eight school years in New York.

    On this day in history, Samuel enlisted in the Army Calvary without his parents permission. Not only did he not have permission, but he was also underage, only being 16 years old. His family found out, and sent the Red Cross to get him out. They offered him a discharge, but he ultimately denied.

    In 1919, Levine became an official US citizen. He wanted to reenlist in the Calvary, and they wouldn't let him enlist unless he was a citizen. Samuel had tried to gain citizenship in Alabama, but they would not let him. Levine was discharged a month before the war had ended, and was in Philedelphia. He took his case to the Immigration office and they took care of his citizenship.

    Before he reenlisted, Samuel got a job working with film for Fox. There, he was a film examiner, readjusting the film after the theatres would send them back in. He reffers to the job as "mean" (Interview With Stanley S. Lane [12/13/2001]), due to the fact that it was a night job.

    Levine reenlisted in the Army Calvary right after he became a citizen. They were going to send him to Hawaii to be part of the 15th Calvary, but he only made it as far as California. He was placed in the hospital, and remained in the medical corps for a year.

    On July 4, 1929, Stanley Lane, was wed to Frances Marion Antis in New Haven, Conneticut. They remained married for over 70 years, and she traveled with him all throughout his military career.

    In 1930, Samuel Levine officially changed his name to Stanley Samuel Lane. Lane did this at The Superior Court of Conneticut, close to his home.

    On May 15, 1932, Stanley and his wife, Frances, gave birth to a baby boy. They named him Bruce Stuart Lane, and he was born in New London, Conneticut.

    Graduates College's
    Lane had taken 394 credits between 1933 and 1944 in Army Extension Courses. However, his education didnt end there. He continued to take courses even after he graduated. He went on to go to schools such as the University of Virginia, Command and General Staff School in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, and Cleveland State University School of Business Administration.

    When Stanley first arrived in the US, his highest grade achieved was 8th grade. On August 10, 1945, he earned a highschool diploma. At that time, he was 44 years old.

    Lane became an instructor at the Army Quartermaster school at Fort Lee, VA, and soon after retired. He then remained a patent engineer for Tow Motors Co. and after 12 years, retired from that as well.
