    VFL was established in 1896 - the strongest teams were Essendon, Collingwood, Fitzroy, Geelong, Melbourne, Carlton and South Melbourne. These teams broke away from the VFA to form the VFL

    His dad went to jail for two days because his kids didn't attend school enough. He had to walk three miles to get to school. He was born in 1948 so he is 69 now. When his dad passed away he had to help support his family. He was born near Melbourne.

  • Maurice Rioli - Footballer

    One of the greatest players in his era. One of the first indigenous footballers to have an impact on the VFL. He was named in the centre for the Indigenous Team of the Century.
  • Geoff Mitta (Boxing)

    The first aboriginal athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal.
  • NICOLE Cusack

    Positions played - GA and GS.
    Height - 175cm
    Place of birth - NSW
    Cusack made her test debut on 26th April 1989. As a junior athlete Nicole excelled in many sports before deciding on netball. She spent almost a decade as part of the Australian squad and was part of the winning 1995 test team against New Zealand. She retired after winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 1998. She was known to change the game with her nippy shooting, her speed and her play making skills.
  • Michael Long - Football

    Michael was also a keen golfer. He walked from Melbourne to Canberra to meet with Prime Minister John Howard and talk to him about Indigenous issues.
  • Jason Gillespie

    Jason Gillespie is a Kamilaroi man and had a 71 test career for Australia. He was Australia's first Aboriginal cricketer to play at that level.
  • Baden Choppy - Hockey

    Won a bronze medal in 1996 Atlanta Olympics. First Aboriginal to represent Australia in hockey at the Olympics.
  • Dale Richards - Surfing

    One fo the first professional Aboriginal surfers in Australia
  • North Melbourne vs Collingwood (Drawn Grand Final)

  • Adam Goodes - AFL

    Brownlow medalist 2003 and 2006
  • Anthony Little - Boxing

    Competed in two Olympics 2004 and 2008
  • Nathan Jawai - Basketball

    Gold medal at the Sydney Olympics
  • Patrick Mills - Basketball

    Mills averaged 10.2 points in the 2013 season as the Spurs went on the the NBA finals agains Miami Heat.
  • Chris Collard - Boxing

    Chris is a vegetarian. He started boxing in 1993.
