  • Brown v. Board of Education

    In 1954, The U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark civil rights decision. After the decision parents with disabilities began to bring lawsuits against their school districts for excluding and segregating children with disabilities.
  • Mills v. Board of Education of District of Columbia

    Mills involved the practice of suspending, expelling and excluding children with disabilities from the District of Columbia public schools.
  • Public Law 94-142

    This is also known as The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975. This law focused on ensuring that children with disabilities had access to an education and due process of law.
  • Education of the Handicapped

    Mandated services for preschoolers and established the part H program to assist states in the development of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and statewide system of early intervention services for infants.

    Traumatic brain injury and autism were added as new disability categories.
