  • Public Law 94-192 (Education for All Handicapped Children Act)

    This act was the first instance of requiring that all children with disabilities had the right to an education. It established accountability for educational agencies to provide beneficial services for all children with disabilities.
  • Most recent re-authorization of IDEA

    The re-authorization of IDEA in 2004 called for early intervention for children who are not currently identified as students with "special needs", but who do need additional academic support to perform well in a general education environment. It also established more accountability and improved educational outcomes, and raised standards for teachers.

  • Endrew F. v. Douglas

    Endrew F, a child with autism, whose parents rejected his public school IEP because it was basically the same as his previous years’, had noticed a plateau in his educational growth. They entered him into a private school that specializes in education for autistic students, yet couldn’t afford it because they didn’t receive tuition reimbursement.
    The court argued that at public school, they addressed his IEP and benefited him more than the minimal level.
    Ednrew and his parents won the ruling.
