    Title VI
    This title created change in the system to offer education to students with special needs. The group today is called OSEP, Office of Special Education Programs. This is the first movement to get education manditory for every child and is added on to the ESEA.

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act. This act was put in place to help low-income families recieve higher quality education and other programs. Free and reduced lunches are also apart of this act. I like that they are reaching to everyone.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation Act

    Vocational Rehabilitation Act
    This act gets rid of the discrimmination of students with disabilities that are recieving education in federally funded programs. The act also adds definition to handicapped person and the appropriate education required. I like the defining that is happening with this act.
  • Educational Amendments Act

    Educational Amendments Act
    This act recieves grants for programming specifically for exceptional learners. This is the first federal funding to also be given to gifted and talented program. It is nice to see they are addressing both ends of the spectrum.
  • EAHCA

    EAHCA
    Education for All Handicapped Children Act. Public schools getting a federal income were required to give education to every student equally. This is a great act that leads to students being closer to the end goal of inclusion and equal education provided.
  • IDEA

    IDEA
    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Creates "People-first" language. Also, adds more services to the special education requirements and makes it manditory to learn life skills by 16. This act is helping students gain life skills beyond the education.

    ADA
    Americans with Disabilities Act. This act creates equal opportunity in school, work, transportation, and the services recieved. This is reaching to the wider majority and not just necessarily in schools.

    NCLB
    No Child Left Behind. This act is based on increasing accountability of the schools and teachers themselves to improve serevices and learning of students. Introduces early reading interventions and offers flexability in money spending.
  • IDEIA

    IDEIA
    Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act. This act is an improvemnt to the IDEA. High focus on RTI (response to intervention) and allows this to be used as a model for determining a learning disability. Students are able to recieve help faster and easier with this change.
