  • Brown vs. Board of Education

This milestone decided that separating children based on race was unconstitutional. It made the end of legalized racial segregation, which overruled the separate but equal.
  • Mills vs Board of Education

Mills held that no child can be denied education because of their mental, physical, behavior, or emotional handicaps. This also meant that they had to be given education, even if they were not able to afford the cost of education.
  • Board of Education vs Rowley

This case concerned the interpretation of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975. Which was about student Amy Rowley who was deaf, and her school refused to provide her a sign language interpreter. This was the first special education case done by the Supreme Court.
  • Honig vs Doe

Doe was a student that could not control his impulses. He was suspended from school. The district court granted the handicapped students' request and issued a permanent injunction, which prevented the school district from indefinitely suspending a student for disability related conduct.
  • Americans with Disabilities Acts

Civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of life including, jobs, schools, transportation, and all places that are open to the public. I believe this has helped students with disabilities because it means no one can discriminate on them just because they have a disability. They can not be denied education or even a job because of that.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

A law that makes available free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and makes sure that special education and services are provided to those students.
