  • Porfirio Díaz Becomes President

    Porfirio Díaz Becomes President
    Porfiro Díaz became president in 1876. Before he was president, he was a military soldier. During his term as a president, he created a strong centralized state during his term. Another main goal he wanted to do while he was president, was to modernise his country and keep it in order. Díaz was very dictator-like during his presidency.
  • José Clemente Orozco

    José Clemente Orozco
    On this day, José Clemente Orozco was born. He was a Mexican painter who created gigantic Murals that established the Mexican Mural Renaissance. Orozco created this Renaissance with other artists like Diego Rivera. Through his paintings, Orozco was able to promote political causes of peasants and employees. José Orozco was a very influential artitist in other people's view during his time.

    Diego Rivera
    On this date, painter Diego Rivera was born. Around 1922, Rivera was strongly influenced by the Mexican Revolution. This was also the time that Rivera's career kicked off as a painter. Even though the Constitution had already been written, wars and fights still happened. Rivera painted many paintings that depicted the Revolution. For example, his large wall works in some places in Mexico helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement in Mexican art.

    The revolution began with a call to arms on November 20th, 1910 to overthrow Porfirio Díaz. Díaz wanted to make Mexico a better country by building factories and other industrial businesses. Due to Díaz's actions, the revolution began. When the revolution started, there was a main purpose. That purpose was to overthrow the current ruler, Porfirio Díaz.

    The Fall of Díaz
    On this day, Díaz flees Mexico. He goes to Europe to be 'safe'. During his rule, his town was raided by Zapata and his army. Díaz knew that he would lose, so he fled. Since he left, Zapata raided and took more towns in Mexico. This was a huge issue becuase the spot for President was vacant, meaning no one was leading the country.

    Madero becomes president on this day. He became president because of the absence of Porfirio Díaz, the previous president who had fled the country the same year. Madero was president only for a short time. During his presidency, he had a hard time dealing with the politics and economy of Mexico. He was assinated two years after being president.
  • Huerta Replcaes Madero

    Huerta Replcaes Madero
    Huerta becomes presdient on this day due to Madero's "mysterious" assaniation. The assination was actually led by Huerta, who believed Madero's actions as a president were insufficient, or not good enough. His presidency was only for one year. This was becuase he himself was a dictator. He becoming president was also opposed by the revolutionary forces. This became a problem, and Huerta was forced to resign after 17 months of presidency.

    Carranza Replaces Huerta as a Leader
    Carranza throws Huerta out of presidency because Huerta was becoming a dictator. After Huerta was thrown out, Carranza comes in as a leader in 1914. During this time, many people thought Carranza was power hungry even though he also wanated peace. Carranza reformed the Constitutional Army during his leadership as well. Even though some thought he was a power-hungry leader, Carranza did a very well job with leading his people.

    Carranza was not the president right after the death of Huerta. He was a great leader and military general during that time. Carranza's Constitutional Army defeated Pancho Villa at the Battle of Celaya. A tthis point, he had divided the country into 7 areas for military operations so he could protect the country in a better way. Carranza did his best to to protect Mexico until the Mexican Revolution ended.

    Carranza becomes president on this day. He was one of Mexico's main leaders of the Mexican Revolution. Carranza returned from the Battle of Celaya in August of that year. Afterwards, in October, the people of Mexico recongnized Carranza as their president during that time. Carranza was in office for about 3 years. During his presidency, public corruption was one of the biggest problems.

    On this day, the Constituion to the end the Mexican Revolution was made. This is also known as the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States. This Consitution was made near the end of the war, and was finally approved on February 5, 1917. This constitution is the first document to give out social rights for the Mexicans. This Constitution in Mexico still is in action in today's government.

    On this day, Emiliano Zapata was assassinated. Before Zapata died, he was a leading figure in the Mexican Revolution, and he was the main leader of the peasant revolution. He was killed in an ambush in April 1919. He remained as a huge figure even after the Mexican Revolutionary War ended. Zapata was also a huge symbol as a leader as well.

    Mexican Revolution Ended
    Although the exact date for the end of the Mexican Revolution is not known for sure, there is a lot of proof that it ended around 1920. At this point of the Revolution, you would think that the fighting and "mini-wars“ would all be over. However, that was not the case for the Mexican Revolution. The revolution did end, but fights and small wars did continue to happen between the years 1920-1940. As it neared 1940, Mexicans noticed it was time to stop fighting because the Revolution was over.
  • Obregón Becomes President

    Obregón Becomes President
    On this day, Obregón is elected President of Mexico. This was 3 years after the Constitution was created. This was after the Presidency of Carranza as well. It was rumored that Obregón launched an assaination against Carranza so he could become the new president. However, historians say that the revolt was true, but we do not know for sure. It is said that his presidency was the most stable since 1910.
  • Institutional Revolutionary Party is Formed

    Institutional Revolutionary Party is Formed
    The Revolutionary Party was founded by Plutarco Calles. This party is a political party in Mexico. It is one of two of the largest parties in Mexico. The party's rival is PRD, or Party if the Democratic Revolution. These two parties are essential to the government of Mexico. The officials of the PRI party are known as priîstas and the party is nicknames el tricolor becuase of its use of the colors of the flag; green, white and red.
