  • Sputnik II Launches, with Laika On Board

Sputnik II Launches, with Laika On Board
On this day, the first ever creature was launched to apsace on board the Sputnik II, by the Soviet Union. This was an experiment to provide data to how living organisms responded to a non-gravitational environment. Laika died within hours due to overheating and was part husky, part terrier.
  • NASA is born

    NASA is born
The National Aeronautics and Space Act is passed by the Congress, This event is very significant because NASA is the most successful space program, the strongest private aerospace/aeronautical industry, and the most intelligent engineers and scientists. NASA works 24/7/365 to find out more and more about the unkown that is space, this is why this day is so significant
  • Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. First Human in Space

Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. First Human in Space
With a total of 108 minutes, Yuri Gagarin a Soviet Cosmonaut was the first human in Space. By experiencing Space, scientists were able to see the effects of Space on the male (human) body and how it reacted. As well they were able to tell that humans had the ability to go to Space.
  • JFK announced goal of sending man to the Moon

JFK announced goal of sending man to the Moon
On this day John F. Kennedy announced the goal of sending astronauts to the moon before the end of the decade. This is what triggered all the attention to space research; buliding rockets, sending people to space, the moon, this age is also known as the Space Age. Due to this goal, we've found out so much information on the contents in space.
  • First Liquid Fueled Rocket Launched

On this day the First Liquid Fueled Rocket Launched from Auburn, Massachusetts. Liquid Fuel is considered better because their reasonably high density allows the volume of the tanks to be low. On this day, the fuel source is less and it helps with the contruction of the space craft as it doesn't take up as much space.
  • First Woman In Space

    First Woman In Space
Valentina Tereshkova, a Soviet Cosmonaut traveled to space for a total of, 2 days, 23 hours, and 12 minutes. This mission was a success and provided scientists with data on how the female body reacted with spaceflight and the exposure to space.
  • First Manned Mission to Orbit the Moon (Apollo 8)

First Manned Mission to Orbit the Moon (Apollo 8)
Astronaut William Anders takes a photograph of the Earth behind the moon's horizon, this is the first manned mission to orbit the moon. This mission provided scientists with information on the far sid eof the moon as well as the first deep space photo.
  • Moon Landing

    Moon Landing
Neil Amstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, representing America are the first humans on the moon. This what USA did to win the Space Race.
  • Pioneer 10 Launch

    Pioneer 10 Launch
The first spacecraft to travel through the asteroid belt, and the first to make direct observations of Jupiter. Pioneer 10 is the first man-made object to leave the solar system, surviving thi s long providing us with information that we arent physically capable of getting ourselves.
  • Lauch of Voyager 2

    Lauch of Voyager 2
On a supposed 5 year mission, Voyagre 2 was sent by NASA to study Jupiter and Saturn, But more then 30 years later it continues to send pictures and data of the planets from nearly 10 billion miles away. These spacecrafts provides us with close up information of these Jovian Planets that we wouldn't have been able to do here.
  • Challenger Explodes

    Challenger Explodes
The First major catastrophe occurs for NASA , space shuttle, Challenger explodes 73 seconds after takeoff, with 7 crewmembers onboard. One of these members was a regular citizen who had competed to be apart of this mission. Due to this event, everyone was reminded on how much risk astronauts went through to go space.
  • Sergei Krikalev (Russia) flies with USA

Cosmonaut Sergei Kirkalev becomes the first Russian to fly on board a U.S space shuttle. This event is important in Space Travel Histroy because this event represented the truce between the Russians and Americans in the Space Race, and from there on they would work together.
  • First People to Live in Space

First People to Live in Space
Bill Sheperd (astronaut), Yuri Gidzenko and Sergei Krikalev (Cosmonauts) dock at the International Space Station. They are the first people to take up residence at the ISS, staying there for several months. Due to the possibility of people living in space (with proper care), this lit up hope that humans could live permanently in space.
  • First Piece of ISS is launched

First Piece of ISS is launched
The first piece of the International Space Station is launched from the United States. Now the largest artificial body in orbit, the ISS provides shelter for humans to LIVE and do research in space. The ISS has provided us humans with so much information in terms of how long we can stay in space, how it effects our body, what can we do to keep our body normal etc..
  • First Space Tourist

    First Space Tourist
Multimillionaire Dennis Tito is the first person is fund their own money go to space. He spent 7 days, 22 hours, 4 minutes in space and orbiting Earth 128 times. this event triggered people attention that they can too go to space, if they have enought money

    Genesis Crashes
Genesis was a sample return probe with the objective of catching samples of solar wind. On its way back the probe crashed due to a design flaw, although some samples were saved. This event is important becaseu from this mission we recieved some key information on the anatomy of solar winds, and how they effect earth.
