November, 3, 1957-Soviet Union sends a female dog into space. Laika lived for 7 days proved that animals can live in space. Couldn’t come back though was put to sleep.

1961- Soviets launched Yuri Gagarin into orbit. He circled the earth in 103 minutes. Later landed safely.

May 5, 1961-the U.S sent Alan Sheppard to orbit space on Freedom 7. Then the president vowed to send more people into space.

Febuary 20, 1962- John Glenn becomes the first to cicle the earth 3 times in 4 hours and 56 min. he also becomes oldest person in to be in space.

June 16 1963-soviet Union launched Valetina Tereshkova into space. She was the first women in space.

Soviet Union launched first woman and the 3 man crew to space. It was the first space walk. Made to keep Kennedey’s Challenge.

1966- Neil Armstrong was recovered from a near disaster, he was in a space craft when its starts to not function right, Neil Armstrong had proven that he knows how to control a space craft when needed.

January 27, 1967- During a launch pad, fire kills Apollo 1 astronauts. They were Virgil Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee.

1969- In the flight Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong was the first man to watch on the moon. Buzz Aldrin was the Second.

April 13, 1970- First space rescue was the members of apollo 13. Had to be rescued after their oxgen exploded.

1973- NASA sends its first space station, Skylab. Then later it was abandoned in 1974. First space shuttle program.

1974- NASA selects two African , a man of Asian deccent,and six women.

July 17, 1975- American and Soviet Union space craft were joined together. Then they showed them together peacefully.

January 1978- there was a few amount of women that became scientist later were taken to space.

1987-Mae Jemison was accepted to NASA astronaut program. She later became famous scientist.

April 25, 1990- Was invented the Hubble Space Telescope. Its primary mirror is found to be damaged.

February 3, 1994- was the first phase of International Space Station program began with the flight of Russia. Dr. Norm Thagard was the first American to stay in Russia.

September 26, 1996- was when there was the first American that stayed 6 months in space. Shannon Lucid was the foe186 days on the Russian space station.
