    On Octobor 4th 1957 Russia (The Soveit Union) launched the first artifal satelite into space. The artifical satelite was called sputnik. Sputnik weighed about 184 pounds. "Sputnik circled around the earth beeping radio signals demonstrating that the Soviets have rockets that could send warheads anywhere on Earth" Sputnik triggered The Space Race between the USA and the USSR.
