    The Vostok 1 was the first human spaceflight in history, making Yuri Gagarin the first human to cross into outer space. This is important to the Space Race because it was the first human in space and the first orbit around Earth.

    This was the day it was announced that a man in the U.S.A would land on the moon. I thought this was important to the Space Race because it was a big announcement and everybody was excited.

    The Luna 10 was the first artificial satellite of the moon, made by the Soviets. I think this was important because it was the first satellite of the moon in history.

    The Lunar Orbiter 1 was the first American spacecraft to orbit the moon and take a picture of Earth from that distance. I think this is important because we never knew what the Earth looked like from that distance until that day.

    This was when Neil Armstrong was the first man to land on the moon. This was important because Neil was the first man to land on the moon and this was America's big step in the Space Race.
