    This orbiter made it to Mars than 3 years later, it batteries failed. It tranfers over 10,000 images in 706 orbits around Mars.

    The Mars Pathfinder was launched on December 4, 1996 and it landed successfully on Mars on July 4, 1997. The spacecraftwill enter the Martian atmosphere without going into orbit around the planet and land on Mars with the aid of parachutes, rockets, and airbags, taking atmospheric measurements on the way down.
