  • The Rocket Revolution

    Back then they used solid fuel to launch rockets solid fuel doesn’t launch very far but in the 20th century they switched to solid fuel and this launched them higher and enough to get them into space.

  • V2

    In WWII V2 was the first man made object considered in space it launched 109 miles in the air

  • Sputnik 1

    The first artificial satellite in space, made by the USSR.
    This started the space race between USA and USSR.

  • Sputnik 2

    This was the first satellite to carry the first living thing to space... a DOG!

  • Wanting to go to the moon

    President John F. Kennedy, challenged the congress to send the first man (men) to space.

  • First man on the Moon

    NASA’s Apollo 11 made it to the moon and had Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were onboard.

  • Salyut

    Between 1971 and 1982 the soviets put up 7 Salyut space stations. They were used for studying living there in space and some were used for military purposes.

  • Skylab

    Was used to study the effects of staying in space for a long period of time. Devices onboard were used to study the sun

  • American Space Shuttle

    It was used to transport crew and cargo to space stations and satellites. The shuttles were reusable.

  • The discovery (first launch)

    It was NASA’s third space shuttle to go into orbit and it was carrying the Hubble space telescope on it as well as three more telescopes.

  • Challenger Disaster

    There was a malfunction while building the Challenger and about 73 seconds after takeoff, it started to disintegrate.

    It was the first major American and Russian project working together. It was the first space station the designed it parts to be taken up one by one crew member lived there for ten years.

    The Hubble space telescope has been an example of many scientific discoveries. It has also taken incredible pictures from space.

    Rovers were put into Mars to study the surface they are like space stations an wheels. There are three rovers on Mars the Pathfinder, spirit, opportunity.

  • The International Space Station

    This was a major space station that is used for scientific research.

  • The Columbia disaster

    While the Columbia was returning to earth and land, it could not withstand the high heat and the shuttle broke apart.

  • Cassini

    Cassini is used to study Saturn’s ring and its moons. It has recently found out that titan has things needed for life.

  • Repair of the Hubble space telescope

    There have been 4 space shuttles visit Hubble to make repairs and upgrades the latest one was in 2009

  • Future missions

    NASA has been wanting to explore the moon mare and to land on Mars these could future mission of NASA
