Sputnik is Launched
The Sputnick 1 was launched by the Soviet Union. In the United States the people thought that if the Soviet Union could put a satalite into sapce that they could put nuclier missles in space. -
Laika Launched
In 1957 a second shuttle was launched by the Soiviet Union. The shuttle was called Sputnik 2. But there was someone on board. A little dog named Laiki. The scientist wanted to see if a dog could withstand being in space. After a few hours Laiki died from panic and from over heating. Laiki 1954-1957 They put Laiki up in space to see if something can survive the launch and into space and see if she could live in space. -
Explorer 1 is Launched
Explorer was the 1st succesful USA satallite to get in space. The explorer 1 was launched to study cosmic rays, and to capture the tempature of the satalite. -
Explorer 2 is Not Ready for Launch.
The Explorer 2 was launched. When The Explorer 2 was getting ready to lauch the 4th stage of the C-rocket failed to egnite. -
Pioneer 1 is Launched
The Pioneer 1 is the 2nd most sucessful satalite in the World. In the U.S.A this was important because this put us farther in the lead in The Space Race. -
Luna 1
The Luna one was the first satallite to orbite the sun. This is inpotant to the U.S.A because the Luna 1 was suppost to hit the moon but missed and just went around the sun. -
Luna 2 is a Success
The Luna 2 is launched into space and hits the moon. This is impotant to the U.S.A. because the Luna 2 is the first man made object to do so. -
Tiros 1
Tiros 1 is the first weather satallite to be used in space. This is important to the U.S.A. because this opened more ideas and thoughts to be made in the Space Race. -
Yuri Gagerin In Orbit
Yuri Gagerin is the first man in space. This is impotant to the U.S.A. because this told the U.S.A that you can survive in space. -
Gus Grissom
Gus Grissom was selected to go into space by NASA. He went into space. On his way back his shuttle landed in some water he was killed when the shuttle sank. The shuttle was never found. This is important to the U.S.A. because this told NASA that they need to have more control when coming down from space
