On July 21, 1969 Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon. He is from the United States and he rode Apollo 11. This event soon ended the space race.

On December 9, 1972 There was an Apollo 17 mission that would have the longest stay by man on the moon which was 74 hours and 59 minutes. The U.S. now knew humans can stay on the moon for longer than neil armstrong did.
