    the USSR launched the sputnik 1 into space. it was the first artificial satellite into orbit, it also started the space race between the USSR and the U.S.A

    The USSR launched there second satilite into orbit. It blew up and some of the peices are on earth.

    now the U.S.A had joined the race and launched Explorer 1
