  • Enlistment

    Charley decides to enlist into a war he's been hearing about. Nobody's expecting it to last more than a little while, so he figures it will be a fun adventure. Charley decides to say he is twenty- one instead of fifteen, and enlists in the war.
  • Fort Snelling

    On this first date, Charley reported to Fort Snelling.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    Massey is decapitited by a cannonball. Charley is shooting blindly, lying down on the ground in fear. Many are dead and ripped apart on teh battlefield. That night, Charley blaims God for all he does not like about war.
  • First Minnesota marches south.

    The First Minnesota travels through the south, stealing from many farms and plantations along the way. Charley gets dysentary from fruit.
  • Battle of Ball's Bluff

    The First Minnesota was lightly engaged at Edward's Ferry. Nelson gets a stomach wound, and Charley reluctantly aides him in suicide.
  • 3 Month Camp

    The first Minnesota stayed at camp for three months at this time. Charley thought the camp started to feel like a little town.One night, he traded with a cofederate soldier across the creek.
  • End of 3 Month Stay

    Charley and the other soldiers of the First Minnesota finally leave their camp.
  • Lincoln's Visit

    While the troops are at Harrison's Landing, Lincoln came to visit them.
  • Falmouth

    The First Minnesota was moved to Stafford Hills near Falmouth.
  • Battle of Fredricksburg

    The men march into and capture Fredricksburg. The next day they held picket duty outside of the town.
  • Calvary Charge

    There is a calvary charge. The generals told the soldiers to shoot the horses. This sickens Charley, and he later goes into a murderous rampage and wants to kill everything in sight. Charley's shoulder is covered in other men's blood, so he goes to the medical area, thinking he'd been hit. Once told otherwise, Charley must help in building a wall to bloick the cold out of dead bodies.
  • Gettysburg

    This is the first of two days at the Battle of Gettysburg. Charlie finally has hope, and is shot several times.
  • Battle of Kelly's Farm

    Charley probably was not involved in this battle, he was most likely still recovering from his battle wounds from Gettysburg.
  • Hijacking

    When Charley's regiment was coming home they hijacked a train in Portage City bound for LaCrosse.
  • End of the Civil War

    The Civil War ends with Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court. Grant is generous and lets the Confederacy keep most of their belongings. Charley goes home.
  • Presidential Assaination

    The president is shot by John Wilkes Booth while viewing "Our American Cousin at a theater. He dies the next day.
  • Pretty Things

    Charley has a picnic by himself and thinks about pretty things. He pulls a Confedearte gun out of his bag and contemplates suicide.
