    First Battle of Bull Run
    This battle took place in Virginia, where the Union and Confederate troops faced each other in the first major land battle of the armies. The Union attacked the Confederates by flanking their left side and pushing them down to Henry HIll, but later on the day the Confederates brought reinforcements and ended up winning the fight.

    This battle was the beginning of the Civil War in the year 1861. All of this started due to the fact that the Confederates were already separated from the Union, and they decided to take the fort over because even though it was on a slave state, it belonged to the Union.
  • Battle of the Monitor and the Merimack

    Battle of the Monitor and the Merimack
    This was a very important battle of the Civil War because it marked the beginning of Ship fights, as it was the first battle between two IronShips. It is also called the battle of the Hampton Roads, but it is known like Monitor and Merrimack because these were the ship's names. Even though no one won, it was forever remembered as a naval fight.

    This battle was the first one to take place on Northern territory. It had more than 23,000 casualties, and was the bloodiest day in all american history. Even though there was no clear field winner, this is considered as a Union victory because the Confederate army led by Lee had to escape the battlefield due to pressure from the Union
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    In 1863, the Union president Abraham Lincoln said through the Emancipation that all slaves that were to fight for the Union were later going to be free. This basically said that the North was free, and it was kind of an incentive for South slaves to join the North.

    This battle was the largest battle of the west hemisphere in history, because, in only 3 days, over 100,000 people died. This marked the end of the invasions from the South to the North. After this battle, President Lincoln gave a speech commemorating the dead soldiers
  • Battle of Chickamauga

    Battle of Chickamauga
    This battle was one of the biggest in the American Civil War. It was the biggest battle fought on the Western side, and the battle with the 2nd most deaths/casualties. 16,000 from the Union and 18,500 from the Confederates, which won the battle thanks to their superiority in men and surprise factor, as the Union did not expect the Confederates at Chickamauga.
  • Battle of the Wilderness

    Battle of the Wilderness
    This battle was known as one of the deadliest battles of the war, with more than 30,000 deaths. It started out because the Confederates had very few soldiers and supplies, and the new commander of the Union, Ulysses Grant took advantage of this and attacked. It was called like this because the confederates surprised the Union's troops on an area known as the wilderness. It lasted 3 days, but there was no clear winner.
