    September 19, 1862, Seneca sat down to write to his wife and let her know he made it to Cornith, Mississippi when he left from Keokuk. He sent her money as well with the letter and said give this money to the people he borrwed money from.

    In October Seneca heard a familiar voice, it was Homer Thrall, Seneca could only stop a minute to talk then later that night they ate dinner together and had sweet potatoes, coffee, crackers and molasses. Homer was a Lt. Colonel of the 22 Ohio, the Regt. formerly the 13th Missouri, and is said to be a No. 1 officer in the war.

    Tuesday night November 6, 1862, at a camp near Juction Tennessee Seneca wrote about the beuatiful things he seen. The army is camp and Seneca walks to the highest point to get a view and in the view he got he saw the fire of the camp in front of the moon.

    Saturday eve Seneca wrote back to his wife when she asked how he lived. He said he would buy provisions which are not furnished by the army commissary to the troops, on surgeon fund him, the 2nd assistant surgeon, and Dr. Morrison all bought a white man who they pay $13 per month who cooks for them.

    Seneca and his crew were moving to Holly Springs, Mississippi when they heard gun shots. The men and him were forced to move forward quickly. Seneca wrote about a man on his team that he saw dead as the were moving and he told his wife they'd were barried in a half hour.

    After the ambush the men a Seneca made it to Abbeville , Mississippi and camp there for a few days, but the sick rate for the hospitial is increasing with winter.

    All the soldiers were cut down on the coffee and switch to wheat because the supply of coffee was getting low. 5 days before this day it was Christmas and the doctors were invited to a big nice Christmas dinner in Holly springs Mississippi.

    Seneca is writing to his family on one letter and it seems as if his wife is having a baby and he is telling her not to do certian things with the baby since he is a nurse. He tells her not to over due things and relax and do not breastfeed with lack of milk. He wrote this letter while he was at Louisiana Bank, opposite mouth of Zazoo River.

    Seneca has wrote about the weather and he said its been raining for days and all the men are ready to do something else besides sit around. The men were looking around town for something to do they found a thing where you'd strap a slave down and whip him to confine. Seneca drew his wife a picture of it.

    Seneca is now at Grand Gulf, Mississippi and he is writing to his wife about the scenic all around, like high buffs and deep ravines.
