  • Credibility Gap

    The credibility gap happened because the government was lying about how the war could end any-day now and the North Vietnam would surrender soon. But the media was contradicting what they were saying. While the government was saying it would end soon the media showed Americans dying on TV and it seemed the North Vietnam were not stopping.
  • Teach-ins

    Teach-ins were made by students and facility at the University of Michigan. They discussed during class about the issues with the war and talked about why the opposed it. It became very big as people who didn't even take the class would come in. It got so big that in May it was on the radio
  • The divide with Hawks and Doves

    With the Vietnam war happening of course America would be divided on what they thought if they should stay in Vietnam and fight or leave and come home to America. They were divided into groups called The Doves and Hawks. As the group names imply the doves wanted to leave Vietnam and the Hawks wanted to stay strong and keep fighting Vietnam.
  • The Tet offensive

    During Tet, which is the Vietnamese New year; the Vietcong and North Vietnamese launched a large scale attack. They attacked American airbases in south Vietnam along with most major cities in the south also.

    Johnson did not run again for many reasons. First one was how he was handling the war he was very unpopular with his decisions . Also he had very popular runners in the Democratic party, such as Eugene McCarthy and Robert Kennedy. So he thought it would be best to just drop out all together.

    The first of two assasinations

    There were two assassination's in a span of three months of very influential people. First on April 4 Martin Luther King Jr. The non-violent protester for civil rights was shot by James Earl Ray in Memphis. There was an out break of rioting in more than 100 cities around the country.
  • The assassination of Bobby Kennedy

    Robert Kennedy who seemed likely to win the democratic nomination, was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan an Arab nationalist. With two assassinations of two very influential people. the country was scared riots broke out to stop the Vietnam war were strong. The democratic party was in shambles as they had to put someone else as they had to think about who was going to replace Robert Kennedy
  • The Democratic National Convention 1968

    This convention was to nominate a democratic candidate. But what people weren't expecting was a swarm of thousands of protestors rallying against the Vietnam war.
  • Nixon Wins the Presidency

    Richard Nixon was the Republican party candidate for Presidency. The main appeal of Nixon was that he promised law and order. Which was very appealing with the two assassinations just happened. He also addressed the Vietnam war by saying he promised a "secret plan" that would bring "peace and honor" to Vietnam.
  • Twenty-sixth amdendement

    With drafting happening for the Vietnam war there was a pretty big uproar with how drafting started at 18. With the argument of how can people go to war if they can't even vote,as the age requirement for voting was 21 at the time. Congress did listen and pass the Twenty-Sixth amendment
