    Canada freed the Netherlands that were attack by the Nazis. Canada had 7600 dead/wounded. People from Netherland were so happ that they threw flower at the Canadian soldiers. Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945(VE Day Victory in Europe Day)

    Air warfare of World War IICanada had a very small Royal Air Force(RCAF: Royal Canadian Air Force) in 1939, but by the time of 1945, it was the 4th largest Air Force in the world. Canadians bombed German cities at night because they were trying to destroy factories that made supplies.

    A lot of ship from other countries came to Britain to give them supply sink because Germany used submarines. So Canada set up convoys(groupe of supply ships) that was protected by corvettes( small fast gunboats). So 25000 merchant ships came to Britain save.

    The German Air Force were defeated by 25% of Royal Air Force, and those people were all Canadians. British PM Churchill said “Never was so much owed bt so many to so few” 3000 Nazi planes were shot down, so Germany could not invade Britain.

    On May 8 1945, people were celebrating the victory in Eurpe, but the war wasn't over, in pasific their were still battle between the Aliies and the Japanese, The allies needed soldiers who could speak Japanese and Chinese to server behind enemy lines. British and Australian forces pressured the Canadian government to recruit Chinese Canadians. It had a commando unit called Force 136. The fist Chinese Canadian to go behind enemy lines was Henry Fung. He was 19 years old.

    Japan attacked pearl harbor on December 7 1942, USA was very surprised. Canadian soldiers were protecting Hong Kong the Britain. But Japan still attacked Hong Kong, on that battle 290 Canadians died, 500 wounded. 267 Canadians died in Japanese prison camps.
    The result was Japan won and captured Hong Kong.

    Dieppe RaidThe Allies wanted to deafed the Nazi’s German so they would move their solidiers away from Russian. They decided to hae a short raid of French coastal town of Dieppe. On that battle, 900 Canadians died, 1000 wounded, 1900 because prisoners and only 2200 returned safely to Britain.

    It was the first Canadian Division spearheaded the attack, it was known as operation husky. Canada used the Mouse holding plan, the plan was the go each house and bomb it to go up the hill. On the first day, the Canadian suffered 60 casualties, but captured 650 enemy soldiers.

    On that day, 14,000 soldiers landed on the beach and 10,000 sailors on 100 ships off the coast. USA, Canada and Britain attacked Normandy. Canada was very successful at Juno Beach, but had 335 dead and 739 wounded.
