  • Zacharius Janssen

    Zacharius Janssen
Zacharias Jansen invented the microscope with his father which helped scientist be able to look at cells. His invention lead to better microscopes and without them, other scientists wouldn’t have been able to dispel the cell theory
  • Robert Hooke

    Robert Hooke
Robert Hooke observed cork under the microscope and was the first person who called cells cells. In 1665 he looked at cork and observed the pores or cells in it.His ideas and studies helped people call cells cells and helped people realized how they worked.
  • Anton van Leeuwenhoek

    Anton van Leeuwenhoek
He is known to have made over 500 microscopes and only 10 have survived to present day. Anton put a drop of water under a microscope and discovered animalcules. Without knowing of the bacteria scientist would never have been able to make the cell theory.
  • Matthias Schleiden

    Matthias Schleiden
Observed that all plants have cells and is considered the cofounder of the cell theory. He became the cofounder of the cell theory with Theodor Schwann. He helped create the cell theory. He also helped conclude that all plant parts are made of cells.
  • Theodor Schwann

    Theodor Schwann
He helped create the cell theory and stated in the theory that the cell is the basic unit for all living things. In 1839 he concluded that all animal tissues are composed of cells.Showing that heat destroys the “infusoria” needed for putrefaction helped dispel the spontaneous generation
  • Rudolf Virchow

    Rudolf Virchow
Showed that the cell theory applies to diseased tissue and overall, health In 1858 he concluded that cells must arise from preexisting cells. Rudolf used the Latin phrase “Omnis cellula a cellula” to summarize the cell theory.
  • Louis Pasteur

    Louis Pasteur
He developed a method of preventing liquids like milk from going sour called pasteurization He was one of the first scientists to prove that cell come from other cells. He did this by creating an experiment that showed cells would only grow in broth if air was exposed. Louis Pasteur contributed to the cell theory by disproving spontaneous generation. He was the one of the first scientists to prove that cells can only form from preexisting cells.
