    San Francisco 49'ers Founded
    Originally founded in 1946 by the (AAFC) All-American Football conference. The 49'ers started out with an amazing debut, in just there first four seasons they were able to have a winning record in each one. Although they seemed to be a promising team they were unfortunately unable to defeat the Cleveland Browns who won every single championship in those four seasons in the All-American Football Conference.

    NFL and AAFC Merge
    During the 1950's the AAFC and the NFL finally merged into one league. Although it was a great time for football it was a devastating time for the 49'ers. The team faced their first ever losing season and most of the 1950's would stay that way for them. In 1957 they were able to make one playoff appearance but even that would not go anywhere. The team was unable to win even with their 5 future Hall of Fame players, In 1958 the team went 12 straight seasons without a single playoff appearance.

    Bill Walsh and Joe Montana
    In 1979 Future Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana was drafted who is arguably one of the best quarterbacks in all NFL history! He was drafted by the legendary coach Bill Walsh. Although Walsh went 2-14 in his first year he quickly turned that around with his West Coast offense. In just his third season with the 49'ers he was able to lead them to their first ever Superbowl victory. The highlight of the season was the famous catch by Dwight Clark to defeat the Cowboys in the championship game.

    The 1981-1982 season would be the season that the 49ers win their first ever Superbowl. They finished the regular season with a 13 win and 3 loss record. They placed number one in their division in the NFC West. They faced the Cowboys in the championship game who they had lost to numerous times. Dwight Clark caught the game winning ball which was nicknamed "the catch". The 49'ers faced the Bengals in the 1982 Superbowl with an attendance of 81,270 in the Silverdome. The 49'ers would win 26-21.

    1985 Superbowl
    During the 1984 to 1985 season the 49'ers went 15-1 and placed number 1 in the NFC West. Under coach Bill Walsh the 49'ers were able to defeat the New York Giants in the first round of the playoffs, the Chicago Bears in the Championship game, and finally the Miami Dolphins. The Superbowl took place in Stanford Stadium with an attendance of about 84,000 fans. The 49ers were easily able to defeat the Dolphins with a score of 38-16. Which ended the 49'ers season as 18 wins and 1 loss.

    49er's Draft Jerry Rice
    During the summer of 1985 the 49'ers used their first round pick to select wide receiver Jerry Rice. Jerry Rice quickly became a big threat to anybody that tried to cover him. Although he got a slow start he quickly made a name for himself breaking records left and right. He set records for career touchdowns (208), Receptions (1,549), and Reception Yardage at (22,895). Jerry Rice and Joe Montana became one of the most dangerous passing and receiving duos to ever play in NFL history.

    1989 Superbowl
    1989 would be Bill Walsh's last season with the team and the first season that the 49ers win back to back Superbowls. The 49ers finished the regular season as 10-6 and would finish first in the NFC West. They went on to play the Vikings who they defeated 34-9, then the Bears 28-3, and finally the Superbowl which was played at Joe Robbie stadium which had an attendance of 75,129. The 49ers would win 20 to 16 and Jerry Rice was named Most Valuable Player. The 49ers finished with a record of 13-6.

    A major coaching change took place in 1989, Bill Walsh had given the head coaching position to the former defensive coordinator George Seifert. Seifert led the team to a 14-2 regular season record. They faced the Vikings in the first round and defeated them and then defeated the Rams in the championship game. They played the Denver Broncos in the Superbowl. The game took place in the Superdome with about 72,000 fans. The Broncos were blown out 55-10 which allowed the 49ers to finish 17-2.

    Steve Young
    Joe Montana suffered an injury in 1991 which allowed backup Steve Young to fulfill the position. Steve Young shocked everyone with his abilites and this caused Joe Montana to be traded in 1993. Steve Young led the team to a Superbowl in 1995 and later retired in 1999. Steve Young's retirement marked the end of the 49ers dominating the NFL. They have not won a Superbowl since.

    The 49ers 5th and most recent Superbowl has been there last. The head coach remained as George Seifert, he led them to a 13-3 regular season which allowed them to once again place at the top of the NFC West. They went on to play the Bears in the first round (44-15), the Cowboys (38-28) and lastly the Chargers (49-26). The game took place at Joe Robbie stadium and it had about 74,000 in attendance. The 49ers finished with 16 wins and 3 losses that season. Quarterback Steve Young was named MVP
