Columbine Massacre
The Columbine Massacre is a shooting that happened in Colorado. It was two senior boys at the high schoool that had the guns were shooting the kids. There were 13 people murdered that day, 12 students and 1 teacher. After they killed 13 people and injured over 20 people they killed themself. The Columbine Massacre affected me because one of my oldest cousin was going to college in Colorado. My aunt and uncle were so worried that something would happen at his college. -
Hurricane Floyd
Hurricane Floyd is the first hurricane I remember, It struck the east coast of the United States. It was the 6th named storm, the 4th hurricane, 3rd major hurricane. Flyod took out homes and newly built buildings and just opened buisness. I remember Hurricane Floyd well because I had my babysitter and her family living with me. She lived in the valley which means her house got hit bad. Her and her family lived with us for a couple of months, so they could get their house back together. -

The World Trade Center falls.
The day the World Trade Center fell there were four commerical passenger jet airliners that were hijacked. The air planes that were hijacked were the airplanes that were flown into the twin towers. I remember this today like it was yesterday. I was only in the 1st grade when it happend. We all left school early, and I sat in my livving wiht my family and watched the news. -

Saddem Hussein dies
Saddem Hussein was the fifth president of Iraq. Saddem Hussein was 69 when he died on Dec 30, 2006. He was hung after his trial even though he wanted to be shot. This acffected us becauase Saddem Hussein was a huge threat to america. When he was hung it was like a wieght was taken off our shoulders because we had one less person to worry about attacking america. -
Obama becomes presdient
Obama is the 44th president of america. He became president in 2009. His vice president is Joe Biden. Barack Obama becoming president impacted america greatly because he was the first African American to be president. He was able to bring home the troops from Iraq to see their families and friends. -

Rutgers Suicide
Tyler Clementi was an 18 student at Rutgers University who jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge. On September 19, his roommate, Dharun Ravi, and a fellow hallmate, Molly Wei, used a webcam on and a computer in Wei's dorm room to view, without Clementi's knowledge, Clementi kissing another man. This was one of the major reason New Jersey established the HIB (harassment, intimidation, bullying) law. Which prevents kids from bullying others. -
Royal Wedding
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine Middleton got married in London. They met in 2001 and got engaged in 2010. The royal wedding effected me becuase it was the first one i ever saw. I was interested in seeing it that my mother and I stayed home and watched the entire thing. When i first heard about it i thought it was stupid and thought it was jsut another wedding. What i didnt realize was how important it was to other people. -
Osama Bin Laden dies.
Osama Bin Laden was the founder of Al-Qaeda, a jihadist organization that is held responisble for September 11, 2011. Between Osama and Saddem they were america's biggest threat of attacks. They tried multiple times to attack america. With having Saddem being killed was a relief and now having Osama died is even bigger relief. I would always hear on the news how Osama was in hiding and we couldnt find and that it worried america on where he was and when his next attack would be. -

Hurricane Irene happens
Hurricane Irene affected the Caribbean and East Coast of the United States. The ninth named storm, first hurricane, and first major hurricane of the 2011 hurricane season. Hurricane Irene effected Manville, but not as bad as Hurricane Floyd. I walked the tracks every day with my parents to see how far the water went down. My dad and neighbor also helped the army people get out of the trucks when they got stuck. I was lucky enough that my house did not get by the flood. -

Tropps leaving Iraq
When Obama became president he promised that he would bring the troops home from Iraq. Obama did what he said he was going to do. The war in Iraq lasted nearly nine years. Over those nine year we lost over 4,500 troops, and tens of thousands of Iraq lives. Bringing the troops home was a terrffic thing because they were over there for so long. Families must have been so happy to know that their loved ones were home safe. -
Kony
Kony 2012 is a short film about war in Uganda. The film's purpose is to promote the charity's "Stop Kony" movement to make Ugandan indicted war criminal and International Criminal Court fugitive Joseph Kony globally known in order to have him arrested by December 2012. Kony 2012 was huge for kids because it was a video shown on sites that kids went on frequently. Most of us already knew about the war but was never really interested until we saw other kids taking actions to help others in Uganda. -
