On November 19, 1979, Ryan Howard was born. This was in St. Louis, Missouri which is why people sometimes say that if Howard's in a slump, bring hope you are going to St. Louis next.

In July 2001, Ryan was picked in the 5th round of the 2001 amateur draft. It was the start of a great carrer.

Howard made his MLB debut in 2004. He was brought up to fill-in for Jim Thome. Later in the off-season, they released Thome and Howard got the 1st base position.

Ryan earned Rookie of the Year in 2005. He was still with the Phillies.

On July 10 in 2006, Howard won the Home Run Derby. It was only his second year in the major leagues and he had 23 home runs total.

The year after Ryan was awarded the Rookie of the Year, he won MVP. This was the same year he won the Home Run Derby.

In October 2008, the Phillies won their fist World Series in almost a quarter of a century. Howard helped lead his team to victory by coming through in September to lead his team to the playoffs.

Due to Howard's amazing preformance in the National League Championship Series versus the Dodgers, he was voted MVP. This series was a rematch against the Dodgers. The Phillies won again and became back-to-back National League Champions. They went on to face the Yankees in their second World Series in two years.
