Steve grew up in South Africa and started doing football at 8 years old.

Switched to playing rugby as a 10 years old kid. Steve played in many different teams and as he got older he sometimes was benched for the 1st team, so he mostly played for the second team.

Steve suffered a serious knee injury during a rugby match and had to stop in order to recover.

Steve joined the army and started playing rugby for the battery he was part of. He called it senior rugby and it was more a form of social rugby

Steve moved to England and settled in Exmouth

After he moved Steve liked to start playing rugby in England as well. Exmouth RFC where the first to talk to him so he joined them and not Withycombe RFC.

In the 91/92 season Steve played his first match for the Cockles at 27 years old. He started in the 3rd team.

Steve was too good for the 3rd team so he joined the 2nd team of Exmouth RFC

During a away rugby game Steve suffered a severe neck injury where he trapped a nerve. The doctors said that he could play rugby again, but that he got a high chance of getting paralyzed. He decided to stop playing rugby.

After the injury Steve wanted to remain involved and decided to be a coach for the juniors.

Steve started as a referee for the juniors. He liked that and decided to take a course to become a senior referee as well. Whilst attending courses he had to stop with the courses due to another knee injury.
