Unlike games before it, KotOR had a full immersive 3D experience. It was a "proper" RPG and was partly based off of D&D. Many came to love lightsaber combat and the Star Wars characters. -
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Although the first Elder Scrolls games came out in 1994, Skyrim became really popular once released in 2010, due to features of the highly detailed environment and lore. This is just an opinion, but some say it's "the best video game created".
