    Considered to be the most important German artist of his time, Caspar tossed aside the influence of the great masters and focused on the teachings of present schooling. His main focus were on landscapes with spiritual and religious undertones.

  • J.M.W. Turner

    Turner was best known for his expressive use of color in landscapes and was considered to be the father of impressionism. His beginnings may not have led to his success if not for being a sickly child sent to live in rural England with his Uncle, which lead to his artistic start.

    Constable was an English painter known for his landscapes of Dedham Vale, an area around his home town. He favored various approaches to completing his landscapes. He strayed from brush strokes and instead, utilized a palette knife. He chose this in order to create an imperfect finish to his pieces.

  • Eugene Delacroix

    Considered to be the leader of the French Romantic school, Delacroix used his brushstrokes and manipulation of color to mold the works of Impressionism. His paintings came from history and literature and were known to be shocking in content. His depiction of violence and suffering lead to the new direction of modern art.
    He died on August 13, 1863
