Burning of the Berry's House
One of the Berry's was rumoured to have been flirting with a white woman, so his family and him were beaten, and their house was set on fire. Some of the Berry family died and whoever didn't suffered major injuries, or later death -
Ms.Logan pastes paper in front of Ownership pages in books
Little Man (Clayton Chester Logan) tries to read a book and he goes to the front page from all the preivous owners and sees that it was passed down from white people to black people. It also showed the condition of the book the first person said Excellent then when the last person besides Little Man had it it was in horrible/needs replacement condition. -
The Logan kids sabotage the white people bus and get it stuck.
The Logan kids had an idea todig a hole in the ground and when the bus came the bus would get stuck in the whole and everyone inside the bus, who were only white people, had to walk home in the dirt,mud, and rain. They did this becaus ethe bus would always almost run them overpurposely and made them gointo a ditch below, or it would run over muddy water and plash it on them. -
The Wallace Store in the back that only lets African Americans in there and they can drink alcohol and party
The Logan family went tothe Wallace store to buy grociers but they didn't know blacks were only allowed in te back where there was partying and alcohol. They told everyone not to go there because of what they did to blacks and how they discriminate them and drug them basically. -
They went to the Berry's house and Ms.Logan(Mama) found out they went to the Wallace store
Mama found out that they went tothe Wallace store so she wanted to teach them not to go there. She was showing them what happened to one of the Berry's. He couldn't speak very loud,he was bruised,broken bones,burnt,and he looked in terrible condition. -
Uncle Hammer comes to David(Pa), and Mary's(Ma) far
He comes to their farm in a SIlver packard which is a really nice car. They thought it was Mr.Granger because usually only white people have nice cars,while African Americans had old and junky cars, or no car at all in the 1900's. It was because they usually had higher taxes then white people and did not make as much as whit epeople. -
"Miss" Lillian Jean and her dad be rude to Cassie Logan
Cassie Logan wasn't looking where she was going and she accidentally bumped into Lillian Jean. Lillian Jean's father was with her and they were acting rude to Cassie. Lillian Jean's father pushed Cassie off the road because she wouldnt say "Sorry Miss Lillian Jean". Big Ma stepped in and told her just to say it, but Cassie didn't want to. -
Cassie Logan plays along and pretends to get along with Lillian Jean until one day
One day Cassie Logan was tired of Miss Lillian Jean so she took her to the woods and told her she had a suprise for her. They went to the spot where Lillian Jean couldn't run away and tell her dad. When Lillian Jean asked where the suprise was Cassie Logan said "Right here" and then she put down Miss Lillian Jean's stuff. Then Cassie jumped on Lillian Jean and attacked her. -
They Go To Church And Tj Wants Stacey's New Fancy Coat
Uncle Hammer takes them to church and they all come out in a nice car,nice clothes,brand new clothing. TJ notices that Stacy has a really nice coat and he wants it,but he's trying to outsmart Stacey to try to get it. -
TJ Avery starts hanging out with the Simmons
TJ didn't like the Logans, or so he said, so he started hanging out with the Simmons and he said they'd buy him anything. Everyone else knew they had a plan to do something to TJ and were just playing and toying with him. It came back at him one day when he was mistakenely convcted of stealing the pearl handed pistol instead of buying it. -
Conclusion
In conclusion in this book African Americans struggle against racism whethere it's, being bulied,hit,shot,burned,teased, and so much more violent and terrible things.
